   British writer of Polish origin. After settling in the UK, he worked as a schoolteacher, economist, television writer and journalist. His writings include Jericho Sleep Alone, Diary of an Old Man, Israel, Troubled Eden: An Anatomy of British Jewry, The Cousinhood: The Anglo-Jewish Gentry, Point of Arrival: A Study of London's East End, Coming Home and The Jews.
